How Does Tattoo Removal Work?

Laser tattoo removal using the PicoWay® works by delivering ultra-short pulses of energy to the skin, which are absorbed by the tattoo ink. The laser light shatters the ink particles into tiny fragments, which can then be absorbed and eliminated by the body's immune system.

The picosecond pulses used in Picoway® technology are shorter than those used in traditional tattoo removal lasers, allowing for more precise targeting of the tattoo ink. This also means that Picoway® can be used on a wider range of skin types, including darker skin tones.

During the procedure, the laser is directed at the tattooed area, with the energy passing through the top layers of skin to target the ink. The pulses are delivered in very short bursts, which can feel like a snapping sensation on the skin. Numbing cream may be used to minimize discomfort during the procedure.

After the treatment, the treated area may be red and swollen, and there may be some blistering or scabbing. It is important to keep the area clean and protected from the sun during the healing process. Multiple treatments may be necessary to fully remove the tattoo, depending on factors such as the size and color of the tattoo, as well as the depth of the ink in the skin.
